28th year! Once again the Sherman Municipal Lawn turns into a glorious hub of activity for this annual welcome to autumn. Featuring a Judged Art Show & Sale for ages 18 and up, Youth Art Show, Woodcarving Show & Sale; 5K, 15K and Fun Run; Continual Live Music; Pumpkin Patch; Pancake Breakfast; Used Book Sale; Museum Tours; T-shirt Painting for Kids; Food Vendors galore and up to 100 Arts & Craft Vendors. It's a great place to begin your holiday shopping!

Sherman Art League Fine Art Show & Sale 2010

For original work (artists 18 and older). SAL membership not required to enter. Cash awards.

Judging will take place that afternoon at 3:30 PM. Show Opening and Critique at 7:00 PM, followed by Reception.

Show opens to the public Saturday, Sept. 18 and runs 9 AM- 5 PM Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19.

Texoma Woodcarvers Show & Sale

The Texoma Woodcarvers Guild (TWG) will host its 2010 show and sale in conjunction with Sherman Arts Festival on September 17 and 18. All carvings will be on display in the Municipal Building ballroom.

The Guild will also sponsor a soap carving booth at the Youth Center on Saturday, September 18 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The soap carving is open to all kids age 8 to 12.

Texoma Woodcarvers Guild 2010 Nativity Scene is also on display in the foyer of the Sherman Public Library. For the fifth year, each member of the group has contributed one carved piece to the project, which numbers 17 figures. The pieces are carved of Basswood and will be on exhibit at the library through the month of July.

The project is a charitable fundraiser for the group, with proceeds to be donated this year to the Women’s Shelter. The drawing for the winner of the Nativity Scene will be held at 4:00 pm September 18.

YOUTH ART SHOW

This is a fabulous way to get your child, grandchild, student, or friends involved in Sherman Arts Festival! Students in kindergarten through high school are eligible to participate.

Art Show Criteria:
- Ages: Kindergarten through high school
- Art work must be matted or framed and equipped to hang.
- One entry per student.

Work Received:
Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Sherman Youth Center, 407 W. Washington.

Judged Classes:
Each grade will be judged individually.

Show Open:
In conjunction with Sherman Arts Festival, on Saturday, September 18, 2010, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Sherman Youth Center.

Awards:
- Judges will award “Judge’s Choice”, second, third, fourth, and fifth place ribbons. All participants will receive participation ribbons.
- Awards will be presented at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2010.

Pick Up: All artwork must be picked up at the Youth Center on Saturday, Sept. 18, between 5-6 p.m.

Teddy Bear Parade

Bear-lovers of all ages are invited to join in the parade! Registration sign up will be from 8:45 to 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 18 in front of Honey McGee Playhouse, located behind (west of) the Finley Theatre Playhouse on 313 W. Mulberry Street.

There will be a judged contest for bears belonging to children aged 0 - 13, with awards, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for these age categories: 0- 5; 6 -10; 11 - 13.

Children 0-5 must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.

Story Telling at Theatricks

Theatricks once again this year will be hosting story-telling at the Sherman Arts Festival - Date TBA. The story-telling events will kick off at 10 a.m. inside the Honey McGee Playhouse at 313 W. Mulberry Street in Sherman - right after the Altrusa Club’s Teddy Bear Parade. Storytellers will be telling stories every hour with the last storyteller starting at 12 noon.

Last year, traveling storytellers went out into the Arts Festival Crowd and improvised stories with the crowd members themselves. So, be sure to come and share a good story with us, and of course enjoy some of the cool air inside the Honey McGee Playhouse.

Directions to the Festival

The Sherman Arts Festival takes place on the Municipal Lawn which sits right across the street from Bearcat Stadium. The stadium is right on Hwy 75 so it's a snap to find! Whether coming north or south on US Hwy 75, exit at Washington Street and go east one block. The lawn sits on Rusk Street, one block east of 75 and one block south on Rusk. It is surrounded by Pecan, Elm and Mulberry Streets. The area will be closed off to cars, but there will be ample parking on the side streets.
